Balenciaga says goodbye to Nicolas Ghesquiere

The musical chairs at Balenciaga could be over before they even got started as rumor has it that the chosen one has been....well...chosen...

There has been plenty of speculation about who would inherit the throne after Nicolas Ghesquiere decided to throw in the towel after fifteen years, with many speculating that it would be Alexander Wang who would take over.

In fact, its a little bit dull but so far every young designer on the block has been named as a possibility for the brand. Booooring! However, I hope its going to be a swift decision - remember how long the Dior thing dragged on for!!??!? every day there was a new name and a new proposal of who should take over. It got to the point where you gave up reading or posting about it!

So why leave the job after fifteen years!??!?!

Well WWD are reporting that relations between brand and designer had soured after fifteen long years and Nicolas was apparently sick of the lack of funding and support for the brand. It was also suggested that there were a few issues of friction between himself and the executive officer caused by the reinvention of Saint Laurent and the money poured into hiring Heidi Slimane. Funny considering that the reviews of Slimane were a bit meh and the reviews of Balenciaga were brilliant!

Nicolas has done Balenciaga proud as the French brand gained some serious fans and reviews during his fifteen year stint. He has also been responsible for some of the best red carpet looks over the past few seasons too.  Many have speculated over who they would like to see replace him, but Carine Roitfeld did comment that she hoped it would be someone new and fresh - in an industry that recycles established designers - I couldn't agree more!
