RuPaul's Girls Show Everyone How It's Done!

Oh hunty, Mondays are still a drag thanks to a few gorgeous contestants of RuPaul's Drag Race. While many queens release mediocre music, these ladies show they have the talent to compete with most of the pop artists blasting on the radio today. Ready to learn a thing or two?

Known mainly for her hilarious parodies, including the classic "Love You Like A Big Schlong" and "Let's Have A Kai Kai", and controversial run on the fourth season of RuPaul's Drag Race, Willam Belli unleashed the official music video for the first original single off her debut album, The Wreckoning, with a world premiere on LOGO. "Trouble" is a catchy, somewhat too short, dance track where Willam admits to be bad news no matter where she goes. The single may not have much depth to it, is strictly one for the club floors, but it does show the artist does have a talented voice. Not surprising since Willam has been crafting music long before her reality show notoriety, including the political masterpiece, "Chow Down", which spoke out against Chick-Fil-A's anti-gay policies.

The music video, directed by legendary porn director Chi Chi Larue, starts off showing close ups of gorgeous men in a dark, moody club. With a sign reading "No Drag Queens", Willam still makes her grand appearance and the party really gets started. The video focuses on the artist's gorgeous body and physique, which would put any woman to shame. I could not stop staring. I also could not stop staring at Willam's five o' clock shadow, which is featured throughout the video as well. Willam noticed this herself and labeled the video "Stubble on the Floor", turning a negative into a positive. Drag queens may sometimes be looked down upon in the gay community, but Willam is making sure she is the center of attention here. She succeeds.

My one small problem with the entire project is the decision to use a remix version of the song as the basis for the music video. The energy is great, but it is a little too much at times. I would have liked to see the original version get the video treatment instead. However, Willam commands the song and video, knows how to work a pole, and seems to be having a good time. She may focus on her looks too much sometimes, but she reminds me of an overly sexual Britney Spears or Christina Aguilera. Is this Willam's "Dirrty" or "I'm A Slave 4 U"? I would say yes. The track is on my "Favorites" playlist and this video is just a fun, guilty pleasure I cannot help but share with you all.

Queen of Season 3, Raja, released what may be my favorite track from a Drag Race contestant this year. And believe me there were a lot of choices. Raja's "Sublime", written by the talented SIRPAUL, is a dark, underground, dirty track dealing with the best subject in the world: sex! "Maybe you'll get yours, after you give me mine", the queens sings in a voice that sometimes gets overpowered by the loud yet intriguing production. The performance may not be the greatest thing in the world, but the lyrics and seductive attitude make up for that. My love for the song has not decreased since its release back in August. As a gift to her fans, Raja finally revealed the anticipated music video which was shot with director Andreas Anastasis. Three months was a long wait, but better late than never I always say.

The eight-minute mini film begins with Sutan, Raja's real name, laying on the Hollywood  Walk of Fame, seeming to be a little drunk or high of life, either one works for me. I've always said Raja is one of the hottest RuPaul's Drag Race contestants out of drag so it is nice to see her male persona make an appearance. The camera follows Sutan all the way to his apartment where we see him pass out on his couch. That's when Miss Raja Gemini comes in. In somewhat of a dream/fantasy sequence, Raja and Sutan meet and and start seductively flirting and touching each other. I guess everyone wants to know what it feels like to make out with themselves (wink wink). The music begins and we are treated to a show put on by the same person. You cannot say Raja was not creative with this project, Throughout the video, mash ups of the two characters are woven together to create a story of pleasure and sex.

Eight minutes may have been a little too long for this video. I'm convinced only Lady Gaga can command a screen for that much time, but Raja and the director give there all and it pays off. Raja could have just created a quick visual of her going wild in some club, but when have we known her to do what is expected? The video has a style on par with its budget, it's reminiscent of an art house film, but the power lies in the eyes of the artist. Her attitude shines and really brings the entire thing together. Beauty is one of the main points of the music video and I do not mind watching Raja strut around all day. The video closes with Sutan waking up from his trance as he see he was sleeping on the star of Marilyn Monroe the entire time. Both queens were Geminis, so it all makes sense.

Shangela Laquifa Wadley, who has certain improved dramatically in her art since her appearances on the second and third seasons of the near-perfect reality show, has also dipped her feet into the recording industry with a track called "Werqin' Girl". The song is really not too great, although I will commend the comedic aspects that certainly got a laugh out of me. The track makes sure everyone knows the queen is really a professional actress, dancer, and everything in between. This is true since Shangela has snagged guest spots on shows such as 2 Broke Girls, Dance Moms, and most recently, Glee. Shangela was filled with attitude and sass during her time on the reality competition show and that attitude takes center stage on this project. The new music video is no different.

Shangela may have just released one of the better music videos from a drag contestant, coming in second to Manila Luzon's "Hot Couture" epic creation.  Taking on the storyline of the desire to be featured as one of Dance Mom's Abby Lee's famous dancers, Shangela shows she has what it takes to make it big. The video really is a funny one and I couldn't help but smile and laugh out loud with the artist's facial expressions and hand gestures. At five minutes, the videos weaves together many aspects and scenarios and I must say it is a job well done instead of the disaster I thought it would be. Ignore the song's lyrics, as they can get repetitive and annoying at times, but listen to the ad libs and try not to laugh.

Besides the comedic aspects, Shangela proves she can actually dance, something not many of the other queens have showcased in their respected visuals. The dance sequences are fun and impressive, as are the backup dancers Shangela has accompanying her. Even the scene where Shangela snaps out of her little fantasy in front of Abby Lee is priceless. Everything works and I have been watching the video over and over again since its release. The music video is fun, campy, silly and looks as if a lot of hard work went into its making. I can respect that. Throw in some Popeye's chicken, a cameo from Jenifer Lewis, and Yara Sofia and you get how a music video should be done. As I said before, the song may be average at best, but Shangela turned it out for the supporting video. Good job mama!

Last but not least, Pandora Boxx, who unfortunately was asked to shashay away far too soon on RuPaul's Drag Race All Stars, quickly returns with another new visual after recently unleashing "Nice Car (Shame About Your Penis)" onto the unsuspecting public just a few weeks back. The song, a cover of Samantha Fox's 1988 hit, seems to be a perfect fit for the comedy queen. She completely makes it her own, so let's just forget it's even a cover. Samantha who? Boxx's overly-processed vocals move through the song with ease, I still don't know if that's necessarily a good or bad thing. Pandora always has fun with the singles she releases and this one is no different. It may not be as attention grabbing as "Cooter", her debut, but it's a song I would not mind blasting when I'm home alone.

Pandora plays many characters in the video, as she has done in her previous releases, and even though each character may not get a great amount of screen, she gives each their own personality. A commendable talent. Whether it's the Jan Brady parody, the red-headed dominatrix, or the lovely sex addict who enjoys getting hit in the face with male genitalia, each is hilarious and executed nicely. There is not too much to the visual, no storyline, no intense choreography, but it really doesn't need any of that. Pandora's charm and personality lights up the screen on its own. It is all I need. Pandora has always been called the comedy queen of the reality show and she makes me laugh here so she did her job in my opinion. The colors are not too hard on the eyes, the costumes are fun, and the song is decent.

If Pandora's beauty and charisma was not enough to satisfy my addiction to everything having to do with the world of drag, she certainly wins me over by adding the sexy, perfect, "Man I want him on my bed right now" Nicco Sky from Randy Blue to her mixture of awesomeness. To be honest, at times my eyes were totally fixated on Nicco and his glowing body, and I'm pretty sure he is the one slapping Pandora in the face with his..."scene-stealing"....member. Can anyone confirm this? The boys featured in the video are funny as well, they add a little something extra for good measures and play well with Pandora, so it all works out just fine. The video is really more simplistic than the previous ones, but I think it stands strong either way. It is campy, but that's the kind of queen Pandora is, so just sit back and enjoy.
