Blake McGrath's "Heaven (Follow Me)" - Single Review

Former So You Think You Can Dance, expert choreographer and most handsome man ever Blake McGrath has been struggling to release his sophomore album, Love Revolution, since fall 2012. With minor setbacks and a couple of singles, including “Motion Picture” and “Danja”, the artist finally premieres the album’s new lead single, the pop heavy “Heaven (Follow Me)”. McGrath’s past few releases have been showing his experimentation with the R&B genre, but fans know dance music is certainly his forte. Not since his debut single has the artist created a track that would actually get people up on their feet.

“Heaven (Follow Me)” is a soft, inspirational and optimistic pop song with catchy background production. On the surface it may sound like just another dance song, with McGrath singing there is an endless dancefloor above the clouds, however, the new release is really all about bringing people together, about living together in unity. “No one can bring us down, DJ turn the music loud, take me to heaven”, he chants on the chorus. The lyrics make an impact as the artist’s vulnerable yet effective vocals practically soar, especially towards the end.

McGrath may be taking his time with the release of the follow up to his debut album, Time To Move, but it the track list sound like this new lead single, or “When Love Shows Up”, a song said to be only bonus material, than the singer/dancer will no doubt have a fun, hit record on the horizon. “Heaven (Follow Me)” is pop with a meaning. The production is interesting, nothing currently heard on the radio, the vocals are nice and it’s good to see McGrath come back with an uptempo track. If the single cover art is a representation of the upcoming music video, that’s another treat to wait for.
