This is a great performance from Ray Charles and a nice sounding recording, too. This wasn't a very good time period for Ray when it came to commercial success, his record sales and air play declined dramatically. One bright moment came in April of 1979, when Ray's version of "Georgia On My Mind" was made the official state song for the state of Georgia. I was lucky enough to catch Ray Charles on tour a few short years before his death. He said it was his birthday and the backup singers lead the audience in singing "Happy Birthday" to Ray. Ray Charles died on June 10, 2004 from acute liver disease, he was 73.
