Maybelline Superstay 24H Lip Color VS Kiko Unlimited Double Touch Lipstick

Life by Bob Andy
Kiko was having a sale - I ain't rude so I partook in the festivities - for your sake, of course ... I was planning on doing a haul but, why unload all the goods when I can painstakingly drag it out to the point that we all forget about them? Yes, I still need to review the Canmake blush ...

Kiko Unlimited Double Touch is a very similar product to Maybelline's Superstay lip colour that has been around for decades - but, from my first experimentations, I preferred Kiko. However, I'm a fair woman (sometimes) so I decided to test them out fully and give you my verdict right here.

Maybelline Claims
  • "ALWAYS looks and feels like just-applied through 300 cupcake bites, 120 coffee sips and 90 kisses" quote
Kiko Claims
  • "Long-lasting 12 hr liquid-lipstick"

First of all, I'd like to know how Maybelline knows my daily cupcake index and what I got up to last Christmas *stay out of my business*. I'm not a coffee fan but I did purchase a jar recently so I'm impressed. Ahem - anyway ... Basically, both brands claim big things but Maybelline's claim is bigger as the name 24H suggests it's going to last all day but cleverly when it comes down to the legality of the written word they don't verify such a claim only allude to it. Have not we all been charmed by such elusive claims of longevity before? ... Yeah, scandalous salacious lies! At least - at the very least - Kiko cuts the time by half which is still ridiculous but, oh we shall see ...

Maybelline Superstay
Caramel Kiss
Caramel Kiss
Beautiful nude shade for dark skin There's a mild pleasant sweet scent and it dries matte pretty quickly. This is not the type of liquid lipstick that you can play around with (smoosh your lips together) as without the topcoat it's seriously sticky and the lipstick will peel and stick together (think Wet N' Wild Old Megalast formula). Applying the balm on top definitely stops the lipstick being sticky but, it also aids in its eventual and timely breakdown.
Caramel Kiss application
Yes, like most things in the world Caramel Kiss, has its fair share of problems ... Below is a picture of how Caramel Kiss looks after wearing it for less than 24hrs (perhaps 2hrs) with no eating, drinking, or smooching insight. I believe the results below say it all ... I did rub my lips together at times but, I wasn't doing any particular lip-acrobatics to warrant such unwholesome results. In the last photo, far right, I rubbed off the flakes/lip boogers to show how it would appear if you were to try and clean it up. Overall, the flaky situation is not particularly attractive and I haven't done any research on this but, I'm 99.98% sure I would get 0 smooches.
mmm ... nice

Kiko Double Touch
105 Scarlet Red
105 Scarlet Red
This is a really pretty red that will comfortably work well on dark and deep skin tones. It's not a plummy red per se but, in sunlight, you can see its beautiful ruby rose-tone, whereas in cool lighting it looks more berry-like either way, I really like this shade and the formula is excellent.
105  Scarlet Red application
Just like Maybelline, Kiko is just as sticky without the lip topper (gloss) but Kiko's lipstick doesn't stick together and create patches. This lip product is 100% transfer-proof and you won't find any red smears where your lips have been. It's seriously amazing and not drying to your lips at all. If you want glossy lips without the hassle of seeing it smeared wherever your lips touch then this is the perfect product (the clear gloss will be removable though).
how Kiko wears ...
Above is how 105 Scarlet Red looks after I ate some bread (dry chapati/wrap to be exact) and water. Compared to Caramel Kiss, the results are a million times better, and I wore Kiko longer (maybe 5hrs). Sure, the gloss is no longer there and it doesn't look as fresh as its beginning but, I'd much rather Kiko results than the flakey-booger lips Maybelline gave to me.

Conclusion Kiko wins.

Tips - I've found out that if I use the Kiko lip gloss with the Maybelline liquid lipstick the lipstick doesn't peel or flake. Alternatively, you can use any clear lip gloss on top but, if I use the lip balm - it's game over for both brands.

I don't know why Maybelline made a balm that actually removes better than it makes the lipstick stay put (?) The lip balm works nicely on its own or as a remover or softener to smooth out a liquid lipstick that is wearing down but, it doesn't make it smudge-proof, in fact, its the reverse.

First Opinions
Before I purchased items from Kiko I looked at a few videos to see what would be worth our time. Below are the main peeps I watched in regards to buying Kiko Double Touch Lipstick.

Joy Geeks - here is where she talks about Kiko Double Touch Liquid Lipstick.
It's Azmai - talks about the Scillian eye notes which I also picked up because of her review and this is where she talks about Kiko.
Brunellesp - talks about Kiko misses and hits - here are her detailed thoughts about the Double Touch.

It's not every day that the sentiments I've heard about a recommended product I bought echos the same for me when I try the product out - we are all different after all, and what I might like or tolerate might be something you find mediocre and at worse distasteful - vice versa.

Well, the ladies mentioned were right, in my opinion, Kiko Double Touch lipstick is pretty perfect. I'm so thankful and grateful for beautiful ladies (guys help too) all over the world sharing their recommendations because without such opinions - in this case - I most likely would have never tried Kiko Double Touch lipstick, and that would be such a great loss for me. I know, there's like a million and one liquid lipsticks out there so it's really hard to choose which one is worth your coins, and I was really close to not bothering buying it but, I'm glad I did.

Prices:

Maybelline Superstay £8.99 each
